- As part of an initiative of the federal state NRW to modernize its universities, the University of Bonn will receive 102 Million Euros for high-priority building measures. 30 Million Euros of this will be used to erect a new building for the Institute of Computer Science and the B-IT on the Campus Poppelsdorf. - For the winter semester 2009/10 we welcome Assistant Professor Dr. Janis Voigtländer at the Institute of Computer Science! Dr. Voigtländer got his PhD from the TU Dresden and his research centers around the semantics of functional programming languages. He is going to teach the lecture "Typbasiertes Programmieren und Schließen in Funktionalen Sprachen" this winter semester. - The NimbRo Team from the research group of Prof. Dr. Sven Behnke has become World Champion in the "TeenSize class" of the humanoid league at RoboCup 2009 <http://www.robocup2009.org/> in Graz. In the final, the NimbRo robot Dynaped won 2:0 against the japanese team CIT Brains. RoboCup 2009 attracted more than 2300 (human) participants from 44 countries, 400 robot teams with more than 2000 (robotic) participants. Congratulations - staff and robots of department VI! - Prof. Dr. Daniel Cremers receives the prestigious ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grant, which was awarded by the European Commission for the second time. The project "Convex Optimization for Computer Vision and Image Analysis", which was submitted by Prof. D. Cremers, will be funded with 2 Million Euro for 5 years. (2.7.2009)
- Two professors from our institute have been offered W3 chairs by other universities during the last weeks: Prof. Dr. Pedro José Marrón by the Universität Duisburg-Essen, Prof. Dr. Daniel Cremers by the TU München. The institute congratulates both colleagues!(24.6.2009)
- The first Bachelor thesis of the new Bachelor's programme was handed in on May 28th 2009. Congratulations to Eva Zielasko who was supervised by the research group of Prof. Dr. Stefan Wrobel at Fraunhofer IAIS! (2.6.2009)
