Admission to Bachelor's programmes

Admission to Master's programmes

The following information applies to our Master of Science programs in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Cyber Security. (For other Master's programs, please check the websites of their respective examination offices.)

Start of studies in winter semester 2026/2027

Application for our Computer Science and Cyber Security programs is now closed.

For the Artificial Intelligence programme, we will still accept applications for last-minute admission until 15 September 2026. Please note:

  • Applications for last-minute admission will be possible through our application portal from 7 September until 15 September.
  • Applicants who had applied already and whose applications still have the status "received" will hear from us soon; these applications are still being processed for regular admission and there is no need to apply for last-minute admission.
  • Applicants from outside the EEA that were excluded in July or August for missing the applicable deadline will be considered for last-minute admission automatically; they do not need to submit their applications again.
  • Applicants that were excluded from the AI programme for other reasons cannot reapply for last-minute admission.
  • If we get more qualified applicants for last-minute admission than we can admit, we will select applicants by lot.
  • Last-minute admission is really only valid for the upcoming semester. If you get last-minute admission and you do not enrol by 31 October, for example because you are waiting for a visa or other paperwork, then we will not offer you our usual support in the form of late-arrival letters and priority admission in the next intake. Therefore, we recommend a last-minute application only if you are in Germany already or if you would be able to travel to Germany on a few weeks' notice.

Start of studies in summer semester 2027

Starting your studies in the summer semester is only possible in the Computer Science und Cyber Security programs (for exceptions for Artificial Intelligence: see below).

First application period: from 15 October to 1 November 2026.
Second application period (for EEA students only*): from 15 December 2026 until 15 January 2027.

*) Citizens of the EEA (the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) count as EEA students. Students who will have completed a Bachelor's or a Master's at a university in the EEA by 31 March 2027 also count as EEA students. Family members of EEA citizens may also count as EEA students (for details, see the application form or §1 Abs. 2 VergabeVO NRW).

We aim to get the decisions on admission out by 15 December for non-EEA students and by 15 February for EEA students. EEA students who (voluntarily) apply in the first application period get a decision on whether they are eligible for the program by 1 December and a decision on admission by 15 February.

Applications for the Artificial Intelligence program for the summer semester are only accepted from applicants who were already admitted in a previous semester but were unable to travel to Bonn, and from applicants who have already completed master’s-level modules that can be credited toward the AI program for at least 15 ECTS credits. In these cases, applicants may apply during either application phase. Otherwise, you may apply later for enrollment in the 2027/2028 winter semester (application deadlines will be announced at a later date).
