Information for First-Semester Students

The International Office
The International Office provides information about how to prepare for living in Bonn, covering topics such as finances and accommodation and much more. The office also organizes Welcome Days and other activities where you can get to know other international students, and brings international and German students together in the Study Buddy Program.

Our Student Body
Our student body, the "Fachschaft", represents the interests of students at the Institute of Computer Science. They provide helpful information about the start of your studies. In addition, they organise the "Erstiwoche" (fresher's week) or "Orientierungseinheit" (orientation unit) in the last week before the start of the lecture period.

The Examination Office
The examination office processes your registrations for examinations, your examination results and much more. It is your contact for all questions about the examination process and official documents about your study progress.

Pre-Courses for Bachelor's Students
Before the start of each winter semester, two preliminary courses are held for our first-year Bachelor students. They provide an important foundation for the bachelor's program. Participation is strongly recommended.

The Academic Calendar
The academic year at the University of Bonn is divided into two half-yearly semesters. The winter semester (WS) begins in autumn, the summer semester (SoSe) in spring.
The formal semester start times are not identical to the lecture times. These change every year.

The Course Catalog
In the course catalog (BASIS) you can find out about the courses offered by the various departments and see where and when the individual lectures take place.
You can also register and deregister for examinations.

Uni-ID, WLAN & E-Mail Addresses
Your Uni-ID is your central user ID, which is assigned to you by the University IT and Data Center (HRZ). It gives you access to a wide range of university IT services.
The university offers the WLAN "eduroam". If you are registered with your Uni-ID, you can use your eduroam access at all universities and educational institutions.
Your university e-mail address is made up of your Uni-ID and the domain uni-bonn.de. Important information will always be sent to your university e-mail address. Make sure that you can read it and that you always have sufficient e-mail storage space.
