This year, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bonn is once again honouring the outstanding commitment of lecturers with a teaching award. These were selected by the students themselves. The award ceremony and presentation of certificates took place at the beginning of June as part of the end-of-semester event by the Dean of Studies, Prof. Dr Michael Meier. Among the award winners is Dr Herman Haverkort, who not only offers courses for Bachelor's and Master's students at the Institute of Computer Science, but is also head of degree programme management.
Students value Dr Haverkort above all for his excellent lectures. His lectures "Discrete and Computational Geometry" and "Fundamentals of Algorithmic Geometry" were awarded top marks in last year's teaching evaluations. The clearly understandable and humorous way in which Dr Haverkort managed to convey even extremely difficult teaching content was highlighted. According to the students, he did an excellent job of balancing beginner-friendliness and complexity.
Furthermore, the students emphasise the teaching materials for the lecture in question as particularly valuable, which DXr. Haverkort developed together with Prof Dr Anne Driemel. The laudation stated: "The time and effort invested in drawings, scripts and exercises should be honoured in any case, because whether you as a student want to repeat the material taught in the course to deepen your knowledge or whether you want to use the teaching materials to initially learn the material because you missed the lecture: you always found optimal support".
The Institute of Computer Science warmly congratulates Dr Haverkort on this award!
