We cordially invite you to the colloquium of Dr. Zhao Na!
On December 23, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m, Dr. Zhao Na, Assistant Professor in the Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (Singapore), will give a research talk in English.
The research talk is dedicated to the topic “Exploring 3D Perception in an Open World“.
Abstract:
As we advance toward deploying intelligent machines in real-world scenarios, 3D perception in open-world environments emerges as a critical challenge. Unlike controlled settings, real-world environments present dynamic and imbalanced data distributions, unseen object categories, and continuous data streams. In this talk, I will explore our efforts to address these challenges, emphasizing approaches that go beyond traditional supervised paradigms. Specifically, I will discuss methodologies for: 1) *few-shot learning* that enables rapid generalization to new categories with minimal data, 2) *open-vocabulary learning* to broaden recognition capabilities for unseen objects, and 3) *continual learning* to adapt to evolving new classes without catastrophic forgetting. I will also highlight the interplay between these settings and how they collectively push the boundaries of 3D perception, enabling systems to perceive and interpret complex, dynamic
environments. Through these explorations, I hope our efforts will provide innovations and insights that drive the future of 3D perception in open-world settings.
The event is free of charge. Interested individuals are warmly invited to attend!
