Information for New Students

Master Introduction

On 8 November 2022 there was an online orientation session for the new students in the Master's program in Computer Science.

On short notice

Due to a rise of work the amount of days to request for your submission link before your deadline increases from 5 to at least 10 days.

On Thursday, July 14th, 2022 the exam office will not be open. The office hours will take place on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 13.00 to 14.00 instead.

Late Registration

Please make sure that you are actually registered for all desired exams in seminars and labs (using the function "Info on Registered Exams" on Basis) and make up for missed registrations as soon as possible. You have one last chance to register until May 15, 2022 in Basis. After that date, you will no longer be able to register!

From April 1, 2020, Bachelor and Master theses will only be submitted electronically, see Electronic Submission of Theses.

Extension of the Deadline for Submission of Master Theses

According to the Rectorate's decision, the specified submission deadline for final theses will be extended by 14 days for students who are writing their final thesis in the winter semester 2020/21 and/or in the summer semester 2021.

The submission deadlines in the examination system are automatically extended by 14 days. You do not need to submit individual requests. You will find your deadline in Basis.

For theses registered after October 1, 2021, this general extension does not apply any more. However, individual extensions can still be requested at the examination board.

Failed attempts in examinations and withdrawals

According to the rectorate's decision, in winter semester 2021/22, failed attempts in exams will again be counted as defined by the respective regulations.

There are far-reaching rules for withdrawals from exams. The examination board has decided to interpret no-shows as withdrawals. Withdrawing during an exams has to be reported to the supervising personel.

Important information for planning your studies and examinations

  • Successful completion of accompanying exercises for a lecture ("Übungserfolg") is carried forward automatically. This means that if you fail or deregister from an exam, you can retake the exam in a later semester without having to complete the exercise again.
  • In accordance with the examination rules, deregistration from seminars, labs and project groups is not possible.
  • Deregistration from lectures of both Bachelor and Master program is to be carried out via BASIS. For all students, deregistration needs to be carried out until one week before the examination date of the first attempt.
  • Courses offered at b-it by faculty or co-opted members of the institute of CS are acknowledged if they are listed in our module handbook. Courses offered by other docents at b-it are acknowledged if an official certificate of RWTH Aachen is presented. This does not apply to courses listed in Life Science Informatics.

New regulation for sick notes

Please be aware that the examination office will not accept yellow "Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigungen" which are handed out by default by most physicians. You are required to have your doctor fill in a special form, which you have to download and print from our website.
