With the help of complex algorithms for detection, segmentation and classification, the diagnosis and therapy of various diseases can be improved. The talk demonstrates with two examples stemming from oncology and neurology how computer support can be used to improve diagnosis or image-guided therapy. Furthermore, with immersive virtual reality environments, training or testing of medical interventions are supported. Machine learning techniques, in particular deep learning, are used for the segmentation of medical image data. By extracting and processing 3D models of medical structures using Geometric Deep Learning, important characteristics can be predicted and made available to clinicians. These techniques enable the transfer of scientific research results into clinical practice.
