Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who can use the Library of Computer Science?
All students and academic staff of the University of Bonn.
2. Who can borrow materials?
All Computer Science students (major and minor) as well as all faculty/staff of the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Bonn.
3. What do I need to check out materials?
Before you can check out any material, you must fill out our registration form. You will be asked (at the circulation desk) to show a valid photo ID as well as your Student ID. Please note that library cards issued from the ULB (Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek) cannot be used in the Library of Computer Science.
4. What materials can I check out and for how long?
| Circulation Books | have a loan period of 6 weeks and may be renewed once at any time. |
| BIT, Reference and Reserve Books | may only be checked out over the weekend. |
| Theses/dissertations | have a loan period of one week and may be renewed once at any time. |
| Journals, LNCS and Proceedings (FOCS, STOC, etc.) | do not circulate. |
Please be aware that overdue materials cannot be renewed!
5. How do I renew my materials?
You may renew:
- in person, at the circulation desk
- over the telephone by calling: 0228 73-4130
- or by sending an email with the book’s title, author’s name and your matriculation number to:

Please remember that requests for renewal of overdue materials cannot be considered. This the only way to ensure highest availability of library books for other students.
6. What happens if I have overdue materials?
As soon as materials become overdue, a reminder notice is sent to your email address. You may not check out or renew any further materials until all your overdue items are returned.
Here are the rules and procedures:

| up to two weeks | Your borrowing privileges will be suspended for two months. |
| up to one month | Your borrowing privileges will be suspended for six months. |

Failure to comply with our loan polices might even cause your borrowing privileges to be permanently terminated and you will not able to check out any additional books.
7. Does the Library of Computer Science have Internet access?
Yes, we have two public computers with Internet access that can be used for research. Additionally, you have free access to the secure WLAN service of the University Bonn. More information can be found at http://www.hrz.uni-bonn.de
8. Can I make photocopies?
Yes, we have a copier that is card-operated and does not take money. Copy cards can be purchased at various copy shops, e.g. Römer-Copy (Römerstraße 241, Bonn.)
