Renew an Account

The extension of an user account is possible only if you are matriculated at the University of Bonn in Computer Science or you are studying Computer Science as a minor study. In this case you need the signature of the lecturer on the request form.

The request can be placed on-line or locally.

On-line

A request can be placed on-line from each computer within the computer science department. From outside you can register either by VPN or over our login server zeus.informatik.uni-bonn.de. However, this is only possible if your user account is valid.

Invoke the registration program by: “ssh account@artemis.informatik.uni-bonn.de”  

The request will be sent to you as a pdf file by email. Print the form, sign it and send it either by post to the address, specified in the form,  or throw it locally into the account request box, labelled "Benutzeranträge".

Locally

The request can be placed - like the initial application - locally in the postal room of AVZ III, Roemerstrasse 164 at the account terminals. Sign the printed form and throw it into the request urn.

That can be done, even if your user account is locked.

Form data

For the extension of your user account you need only your

  • login name and your password, as well as your
  • matriculation number  

Additionally with minor studying 

  • Title of the training meeting and lecturer

Please update on this occasion also their address data.

General hints

Please consider the following references to error messages:

  • The program does not recognize your matriculation number, although you are registered in the subject Computer Science.
    Happens, if you registered yourself after the beginning of the term. Contact us personally with your valid student documents of identification.
  • The program finds already a request with your matriculation number, although you placed no application for extension before.
    Happens, if your user account is locked and is to be removed. Contact us personally with your valid student document of identification. 
  • If the signed form is not given to us within 4 weeks, the request is not considered as posed.

Phase of renewal

  • The phase of renewal usually starts on 1st of November
  • You only need to renew your account once every two terms, in the winter semester.

Freezing of an user account

A user account becomes automatically locked, i.e unusable,  

  • if your user account were not extended up to 30.11., or
  • if you are no longer matriculated in Computer Science.

With the blockage of the user account at the same time the VPN account is locked too. Until the user account is removed, its email account is still usable.

Removal of the user account

A user account is finally removed including all associated accounts (email, VPN),  

  • if your user account were not extended up to 31.1., or
  • if you are no longer matriculated in Computer Science.   

You can copy your data still up to the end of the current term on a USB disk. Please contact us personally with your identity card and supply a USB disk. 
Institutsverweise
