Configuration for SSH Client and PuTTY

As a replacement for the command "telnet" there are a number of programs that support encrypted transmission. You will find two of those programs described below: SSH client, and PuTTY.

SSH Client

SSH stands for Secure SHell Client. It allows you to run programs on a SSH server and copy files back and forth. Download the program from the FTP-Server of the institute of computer science and install it on your computer. To connect, click on "Quick Connect", enter the appropriate host name, port number 22 and choose the authentication method "password". Click "Connect". The following is the configuration window of the SSH client. You can save the settings in a profile, so that you can quickly establish a connection in future times. To copy files, click on the "New File Transfer Window."

PuTTY

PuTTY is an open-source program. The advantage of PuTTY is that you do not need to install it - just download the program and run it immediately. The latest version can be downloaded from the PuTTY-Download-Page of its developer.
