Go-Global Server

What are the advantages of an application server?

On a Windows-based application server, you can log on remotely and use the software installed on the local machine. This is made possible, by the GO-Global software, which redirects the screen output of the started application on the server to the GO-Global client. This way, software licenses that would be too expensive to afford for many workstations, can be used anyway. After logging on to the application server the user's personal drive (Z: \) is available for data storage.

Which platforms are supported?

The GO-Global client application is available for Windows, Linux and Macintosh. The functionality was not tested for all clients. Alternatively, you can start the application as a Java applet in your internet browser.

How do I install the GO-Global client?

If you are working from home or on your laptop brought to work, you must install this application on your computer. GO-Global is available for Windows, Linux and Macintosh. You will need a VPN connection to the application server to connect or download this software. You can download GO-Global here.

How do I get there?

When you are in the Windows pool, click the link shown below in the windows start menu to start the GO-Global client.

Type "kratos.informatik.uni-bonn.de" into the input field and click "Connect".

Signing in can take a few seconds, so please be patient. After you are connected, a window will pop up, showing you all programs that can be used with GO-Global at this moment.

How can I save my work?

Open the programs "save to" dialog as usual. GO-Global will automatically list all available drives to save to. This list also includes drives on the client machine, from which you have connected to the GO-Global server. For example, the "Z" drive, that every pool user has, would show up as "Client Z". You should save your files there.
