Infrastructure Usage
This site is under construction at the moment. Please use the german version for a more detailed information.
User IDs / Login
Your user ID - also called a login or account - basically allows you to access (login) all computers at the Institute. As default you user ID is only enabled for the central computer pools, an activation for other computers is done by the corresponding departments and usally only when needed. Your user ID is a fixed user number, called UID. You can find your UID out by using the id command on a Unix system. It is also located on your access card.
Access control systems
At the moment, there are two different systems in use. Here is a brief description of these. For more informations take a look at the ZKS page.
Chip card
The current access control mechanism applied at the institute uses a transponder chip card (How to get this card?), which enables you to access the computer pools in the container building and LBH (Landesbehördenhaus).
Magnetic card
The older system works via magnetic card. With the card, you get access to certain rooms in the Altbau. You can obtain this card at the helpdesk.
Handling of the card
Next to the doors, there is a card reader attached. If you hold your card close to the reader (or if you're using the magnetic card: pull the card through the slot), the data stored on the card is read and depending on your access rights, the door is opened. Enter the room immediately afterwards. Please also note that no one enters the room with you unwarranted. You can use the room at any time and when you leave there is no need to check out. Usually, the door closes by itself. Please make sure that the door is closed after you anyway.
Of course you should not pass your card to others. Also the card must not be duplicated or manipulated for more rights. If you lose the card, you must notify us immediately. Please return damaged cards back to us. In case of loss or damage to the card, you receive a replacement card for which we have to charge you 7 Euro. Ensure that you provide sufficient coverage for your print account, from which this amount will be deducted. Note that we are not able to take cash.
Privacy Policy
The only thing stored on the card is the card id. No personalised data is stored on the card. When we hand the card over to you, you have to sign an agreement that grants us the authorization for the collection and storage of personal data related to your card. In addition to the above-described contents of the card, access records will be stored. These are only used for the purpose of a retrospective review of the credentials or in case of a legitimate suspicion of an abuse. This data is deleted after a reasonable time. If any statistics are derived from this data, these statistics won't contain any personal data. You can change the permission to store this data at any time. In this case, the card must be returned. Please also note that the access to the computer pools is monitored by surveillance cameras.
Terms of Usage
By requesting a user ID, you have agreed to our terms of usage. You can find our terms here. You will be informed about changes by email.
User Data
Each user has got a "home directory" assigned, that can be accessed from all computers (except for some lab computers) at the institute. There, you can store data at a central location, which is backupd on a daily basis and therefore can be restored if necessary. Also some programs save program-specific data there. The space, however, is limited by a so-called "quota". See more information on the WWW pages of the institute.
