General Information

Welcome to the Master's Program in Computer Science (Master Informatik) at  University of Bonn! On this website you will find detailed information on our English-taught, two-year full-time program and the application requirements. Our online application form offers you a simple and quick way of applying to us.

All accepted candidates can profit from our Student Support Service including personal mentoring by a professor of this institute and a service office (Master Program Office/see right column for contact details) providing guidance on all aspects of a masters student's life.

Research-oriented profile

Our Master’s Program in Computer Science (Master Informatik) is a general master's degree with a research-based profile. The curriculum of this program is closely connected to the ongoing research of this institute`s working groups. Our students need to attend courses from at least three out of the four tracks offered within the master's curriculum. This program provides our students with the expert knowledge, skills and methods as well as interdisciplinary key qualifications required for both a scientific and a professional career. It takes into account the requirements and changes in the professional world, and enables them to work scientifically, to classify and utilise scientific discoveries in a critical manner and to act responsibly.

The Institute for Informatics of University of Bonn has a long-standing tradition. Founded in 1969 as one of the first institutes for computer science in Germany, it has since been known for its substantiated instruction, which is strongly characterized by the closeness to up-to-date research in all decisive areas of computer science. The institute closely co-operates with internationally renowned research institutions in and near Bonn as well as international companies. This enables our students to access interesting project groups, and also enlarges the range of fascinating subjects for theses and research work - a first and decisive step towards a scientific career.

Taking into account the outstanding qualification this program offers, our graduates have excellent perspectives on the job market. Graduates of the Diploma Program (i.e. the program that preceded the Master's Program) now work in public and private research institutions, for major technology companies and consulting agencies, for insurance companies and banks. Particularly in the Bonn-Cologne area there are a number of leading companies in constant demand for experts in the computer science sector.

The University of Bonn maintains a Career Center that prepares students for the needs of the professional world and supports alumni in their first steps towards a professional career.
